GRAMMY-nominated, country artist Steven Lee Olsen is stripping it down to his small-town roots with the release of his anticipated new single “Bigger Than This Town.” Celebrating the unity and pride that is born from small-town living, the anthemic track is undoubtedly set to become the theme song for every person who spent their formative years in a rural setting.
“We moved a lot when I was kid, so this song is really special to me because it captures the sense of community and family I experienced growing up in small towns around Ontario,” shared Olsen on the inspiration behind the song. “My wife and I just recently bought a house back home so our son can have this same experience, as we split our time between there and Nashville.”
Penned by Olsen and longtime collaborator Brandon Day (Brantley Gilbert, Jason Aldean, Plain White T’s),the track came to life at a writing retreat in Colorado. “There we were, surrounded by mountains and fresh air and unsurprisingly, that brought up so many memories of my upbringing,” explained Olsen. “As Brandon and I wrote we realized that this song spoke to more than just where I came from and how I became who I am today. It’s an anthem that celebrates the strength of people who learned to depend on each other and how powerful that can be, no matter how many stoplights their town has.”
Further showcasing the strength of the new track, “Bigger Than This Town” will serve as the title track off of Olsen’s first full-length album release via Olsen’s distribution partnership with Starseed Records and a national headlining tour, both coming later this year.
Next weekend Olsen will get the chance to celebrate the release across the GTA when he performs for Toronto Maple Leafs fans at the Ford Playoff Rallies on April 20th at Sherway Gardens in Etobicoke, and April 21st at Fairview Mall. In addition to catching Olsen’s performance, which will be powered by F-150 Lightning and take place at 3:30pm each day, fans will get to meet Maple Leafs alumni and Carlton the Bear. Olsen is no stranger to celebrating Canadian sports teams as his single “What You’re Made Of” was a featured Song of the Season with CFL on TSN in 2021.
Continuing to prove that this is his biggest year yet, Olsen recently joined Russell Dickerson on his Big Wheels & Back Roads Ontario tour dates and can be seen this summer at Rainmaker Music Festival, Bo’s Bar and Stage, Grand Prairie Stompede, Quonset Days, Sunfest Country Music Festival, the 16th Annual Boot Hill “Country” Jamboree and Peach Fest, with more to be announced. Additionally, adding to his string of Top 10 singles, his track “Out Here” recently soared to top 6 at Canadian country radio.
As he continues to rise with over 78 million streams, fans are encouraged to keep an eye on Olsen’s channels for tour date announcements.
