Quebec City-based country singer-songwriter Allison Daniels shares her debut album W, via 604 Records/Warner Music Canada today. Working with Ryan Stewart and Tavish Crowe, W is a collection of some of the most personal songs Daniels has written to date. The 12-track project showcases Daniels’ ability to seamlessly blend rock with traditional country, blues and pop creating a sound that is uniquely hers.
“This album reflects my journey which has been filled with growth and change. I hope that each song serves as a reminder that you should stay true to yourself. Many of the songs on this album are ones of empowerment and describe the challenges I’ve faced as a woman,” says Daniels.
“I decided to name the album W, as that letter carries a multitude of strong and symbolic meanings for me. Four words that stand out are women, win, warrior, and wonder,” continues Daniels. “This album honours all the strong, fierce women who have played a part in my life and inspired these songs. They also speak to overcoming challenges, surmounting obstacles, and ultimately winning. When writing this album with Ryan and Tavish, many of these tracks evoked my inner strength and determination, I channelled my inner warrior to help tell my story. Lastly, ‘W’ signifies wonder. These songs invite listeners to celebrate what makes us unique and extraordinary. I can’t wait for you all to listen.”
Daniels landed the coveted spot of the iHeart Radio Future Star program back in March and her song “We Both Know” secured her Stingray Music’s New Country Trending Track this spring.
Raised in Quebec City, Daniels is the daughter of a musician and began learning guitar and writing songs at age 11. Her love for country music came from exploring the genre online. Pulling influence from artists like Carrie Underwood, Eric Church and Chris Stapleton to find her voice in the genre, Daniels also taps into her rock and blues sides, finding inspiration in bands like Greta Van Fleet, which lends to her swagger when recording her vocals and performing on stage. Her hard work and determination have allowed her to share the stage with Country superstar, Keith Urban at Festival d’été de Québec in 2015. It also landed her in the quarterfinals on Quebec’s wildly popular TV Show, La Voix, and she opened for CCMA Award-winning artist Tim Hicks on his Quebec run in 2018.
ABOUT ALLISON DANIELS
Quebec City-based country singer/songwriter Allison Daniels is a rarity – a young artist who has made her living almost exclusively as a working musician – an experience she brings to bear beautifully on her upcoming debut album via Vancouver’s 604 Records. Although she’s been described as an ‘up and coming’ talent, she has made a substantial impact in her home province as a quarterfinalist on La Voix (Quebec’s version of The Voice), performing a duet with Country superstar Keith Urban at Festival d’été de Québec in 2015, and opening for Canadian country star Tim Hicks. While country music is Daniels’ focus now, her sound is impossible to pigeonhole, a seamless blend of rock, traditional country, and swampy blues, with hints of country pop haunting the edges. “For me,” she says, “it was important to create a style that wasn’t ‘in the box’ – a style that’s truly me.” Job done – on stage and record, Allison Daniels displays a level of comfort and clarity of intent that only someone who’s spent a lot of time on deck singing and playing their heart out can achieve.
