BRETT KISSEL Releases Deeply Personal Single With “Close To You”

Multi-platinum, JUNO Award-winning country entertainer Brett Kisselhas released his deeply personal new single, “Close To You,” available now across all platforms. This heartfelt track, co-written by Kissel, Deric Ruttan, and Kyle Clark arrives at a poignant moment for Kissel, as he honours the anniversary of his grandparents’ untimely passing. Listen to “Close To You” HERE.

This song has been something I’ve held onto for a long time because we knew it needed the right moment to be shared,” Kissel says. “To be releasing it now, on the anniversary of my grandparents’ passing, is a special way to honour them, especially my Grandpa Lloyd Kissel. I still wear his Carhartt coat, and every time I see an early 90’s red Ford F150 single cab, I think of him.

“Close To You” serves as a tribute to Kissel’s grandparents, who tragically passed away in a car accident just before his hometown Christmas concert. For Kissel, the song represents not just the grief of losing loved ones, but also the enduring connection that transcends physical absence. He reflects, “It’s not necessarily the gravesite, but those random memories that pop into your mind — that’s what brings you closer to those you’ve lost. My grandpa may not be with me anymore, but I still feel his presence, and this song is my way of honouring that connection.

The track came to life during a writing session with fellow songwriters Deric Ruttan and Kyle Clark when the three musicians shared stories of their own experiences with family and loss, and as Kissel explains, “It was amazing how my stories about my grandpa mirrored Deric’s stories about his dad. That shared connection of love and loss gave birth to this song, and it’s something I know will resonate with anyone who’s lost someone they love.

Currently in the midst of The Side You’ve Never Seen tour, fans across Canada are invited to experience an entirely different side of Kissel as he offers a glimpse into his artistry and delivers an intimate, acoustic atmosphere that strips back the full band to highlight the craftsmanship and stories behind his music. The tour provides a rare opportunity to connect with Kissel in a more personal way, sharing moments that reflect his own musical evolution.
