2023 MCMA Emerging Artist of the Year and Red River Métis artist Catie St. Germain is proudly stepping into her own with the release of her debut EPCleaning House (Or Trying). As the granddaughter of Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame royalty, Ray St. Germain, St. Germain has always had music coursing through her veins and is finally ready to pave her own trailblazing path with her signature vocals and authentic songwriting.
The 6-track EP is a carefully curated collection of songs that showcases St. Germain’s artistic journey from a busy mom of three to country music’s next big star. Home to previously released singles “High Forever,” “The Day Gets Too Long,” which went #1 on the Indigenous Music Countdown and St. Germain’s first original single “The Taxman” which led to six Manitoba Country Music Award Nominations (2023), the EP confirms St. Germain’s status as an emotional storyteller and powerful vocalist.
“I am so thrilled that my debut EP is finally out in the world! This has been a labour of love and I am so grateful to my team and family for supporting my dreams as an artist,” explained St. Germain.
While the 34-year old is no stranger to the music industry, St. Germain let her career goals take a backseat to raise her three sons. “While my musical journey has not followed the typical path, I’m immensely proud to demonstrate to my sons that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to, and that I can be a devoted Mom while pursuing my dreams wholeheartedly.”
The title track “Cleaning House,” written by Brooke Eden (SACHA), Eric Arjes (Jelly Roll, Breland, Alee), Jessica Cayne (Brittney Spencer, Darius Rucker) and Emma-Lee (Mickey Guyton, Brett Kissel, Washboard Union) will be the focus track and next single released to country radio. An energetic track detailing the end of an unhealthy relationship, “Cleaning House” pays homage to the cathartic process of taking back control, and removing people from your life who no longer serve you regardless of the situation in life it applies to. “’Cleaning House’ was one of my favourite songs to record on the EP,” explains St. Germain. “Growing up in small towns, I resonated deeply with the lyrics’ encouragement to ignore the rumours and the illusion of perfection. It’s a song about female empowerment accompanied with cheeky lyrics that perfectly reflects who I am to my core as a mom, wife and artist.”
