Dust on the Strings : The Sound of LESTER SLADE’s new DIY Singles, where Punk Energy Meets Country Roots

Forget Rhinestones & Cowboy Boots. Lester Slade isn’t interested in polished perfection.  The Nunavut-based artist delivers unadulterated country grit with his new double single release, “Time” and “Old Machine.”  Recorded live off the floor at Never Nuthin Recordings by Keith Hallett, these tracks capture the energy of a band firing on all cylinders and telling a story.  Slade, along with Dan Logan, Alex Babs, Jesse Lear, and Ryan Hillier, create a sound that’s both familiar and fiercely individual – a potent blend of classic country heart and DIY punk spirit. Think Hank Williams meets the Ramones, with a distinctly Canadian twist. These aren’t just folk songs; they’re a statement.

I really like the earthy approach Lester took by working with Keith Hallett. They are a match made in honky tonk heaven; the perfect mix of warm, analog tone and hard-edged Americana.

There’s a timeless quality to Lester Slade’s writing. He’s an old soul but a restless one and it can be heard on his first record. (Burnt Out Lightning)  But on this  release, I believe his gift for song craft has hit its stride. He’s got the right crew to dig in, get those words out and hit you right in the gut with phrases that stay in your mind long after the song has finished. It takes a great storyteller to do that and he is definitely one of them.”

The accompanying live-in-studio videos for “Time” and “Old Machine” offer an intimate glimpse into the raw energy of Lester Slade’s performance. Filmed live at Never-Nuthin Recordings, the videos capture the band’s dynamic interplay, showcasing not only their musical ability but also their chemistry from years of performing together.

These are authentic performances, warts and all, that perfectly reflect the sound of the tracks themselves. Expect close-ups and spontaneous moments. The videos are as much a statement of the band’s DIY ethos as the songs themselves.  Catch the new singles  of Lester Slade on all major streaming services and, for the vinyl purists, a limited edition pressing via Elastic Stage Records, both dropping November 22nd.
