After more than a decade of honing his craft on stages across North America, Mitch Zorn has released his self-titled debut EP, out today via 604 Records. Behind the collection’s 14 minutes and 35 seconds of toe-tappers and tearjerkers are 10,000 hours – and then some – of grit, growth and dedication poured into every note.
Raised in the small town of Nakusp, BC, Zorn started playing guitar at age eight, joined his dad’s country blues band at nine, and was writing songs by 12, using music as a way to process life. Between shifts in the oilfields of BC and Texas and songwriting trips to Nashville, he’s shaped a sound grounded in authenticity and emotional honesty, with reverence for the genres that helped form it – from traditional and modern country to pop rock, hip hop and grunge.
The honest, genre-blending debut showcases his range as both a songwriter and performer. Featuring familiar fan favourites like the radio hit “Home,” the infectious heartbreak of “Think of Me,” the emotional pull of “Back to You” and the lyrical craftsmanship of “10 Days in July,” this EP captures the heart of country with a style that is unmistakably Zorn.
At the centre is the brand new single “Stray Bullet,” a gritty, late-night anthem that hits like a shot of whiskey, diving into love lost and small-town frustration. It’s a raw, catchy ride through the emotional fallout of someone pulling the trigger on a goodbye. It’s vulnerable, loud and impossible not to feel – your new favourite sad song to blast with the windows down.
Zorn will celebrate the EP with a release party tonight at Toronto’s legendary Horseshoe Tavern (TICKETS) with special guests Paige Rutledge and Connor Wicklum, followed by a packed summer of festival and headlining shows. For full tour dates and updates, visit mitchzorn.com.
