INTERVIEW // RYAN LANGDON brings authenticity and truth to the story with ‘Whiskey Bottle’

By Staff – Working with well-rounded collaborators old and new such as Dave Thompson (Lady A, Lights), Patricia Conroy (Meghan Patrick, Rivertown Saints), Jim Witter (Steve Wariner), Jesse Slack (Josh Setterfield, Robyn Ottolini), Steve Molella (Finger Eleven, New Friends), and Marty Martino (Down With Webster, Theo Tams), Ryan was encouraged to show off some versatility after mastering rock-country songs. His next releases will infuse his music tastes from the pop and hip-hop world, while still maintaining his country roots. Everyone brings something to the table and brings elements from every genre they enjoy. The songwriters don’t limit themselves with rules on what’s considered a country song, they just follow that golden thread and run with it.

Can you tell us about the inspiration behind your new single “Whiskey Bottle”?
The inspiration behind “Whiskey Bottle” stems from reflecting on past experiences and remembering the difficult relationships of the past. I’m happily married now, but before I met my wife, finding love was often challenging and usually ended in heartbreak. We wanted to write something that deviates from the typical country song that promotes alcohol as a remedy for heartbreak. In reality, it makes things more difficult, clouding your judgment and preventing you from thinking clearly.

What was the writing process like for this song?
I often have the pleasure of writing with Jim Witter and Andrew Martino (of Down with Webster) through their involvement with Slaight Music. The chemistry we share is incredible, feeling like a family. This makes expressing ourselves during songwriting sessions comfortable and natural. Jim Witter came in with an amazing melody and concept, and Andrew Martino brought his exceptional production skills and ear to the table.

How would you describe the sound and message of “Whiskey Bottle” to listeners?
We aimed for a modern production sound while occasionally incorporating my unique edge. Our goal was to shed light on a situation many people have experienced at least once in their lives, bringing authenticity and truth to the story. We wanted to make it clear that delving too deeply into alcohol only worsens the situation in the long run.

Is there a personal connection or story behind the lyrics of this song?
In my younger years, I’ve had my fair share of relationships that didn’t work out. Almost every time, I thought the best solution was to grab my friends, head to the bar, and drink my sorrows away. So, this song deeply resonates with a past version of myself.

What do you hope listeners take away from “Whiskey Bottle” after hearing it?
I hope listeners find hope in knowing that things will get better and that sometimes, you simply weren’t meant to be with that person. Instead of turning to drinking, I hope they engage in activities that improve themselves or help them stay active during tough times, when many might otherwise crumble.

How does “Whiskey Bottle” fit into the overall theme or sound of your upcoming album/EP?
The great thing about this new project is its versatility, offering a different flavor with every song. This album showcases more of my sensitive side, whereas past projects featured more upbeat tracks.

What was it like working with the producers and collaborators on “Whiskey Bottle”?
Working with Andrew Martino is always a pleasure. He has produced several of my previous songs, and our strong friendship makes our collaborations a lot of fun. He has a great ear for modern sounds, and with how much country music is evolving sonically, he’s the perfect producer to partner with.

Are there any specific musical influences or artists that inspired the sound of this single?
Lyrically, the song is very country, drawing inspiration from artists like Jason Aldean, Trace Adkins, and Blake Shelton. However, we also aimed to incorporate the modern production style that Morgan Wallen brings to the table.

Can fans expect to see a music video or live performances for “Whiskey Bottle” in the near future?
A music video for “Whiskey Bottle” is in the works and will be released soon. The concept is a bit different from what you might expect for this song, offering a unique and surprising take.

What’s next for you after the release of “Whiskey Bottle”?
My goal right now is to continue writing songs that people enjoy, with the aim of eventually having enough material to release my first full album. We’re nearing that milestone, but I’m committed to not rushing the process. Ensuring each song is of the highest quality is my priority.
