With more than a dozen awards to their name, Calgary’s unstoppable country duo Nice Horse has kicked off 2024 with a bang. Celebrating their national chart success with their current single, the band walked away from the CMAB Awards this weekend in Edmonton with a win (Horizon Group or Duo of the Year) and today are announcing their debut album as a duo made up of founding members Katie Rox and Brandi Sidoryk. Slated for release on April 19 on Sakamoto Music (Warner Music Canada), the self-titled collection of songs delivers the new era of Nice Horse.
Anchored by the undeniable harmonies Nice Horse is known for, the album dives deeper into the sensitive side of the award-winning duo. “We definitely grew as songwriters during the process of writing this album, and with that our sound has evolved too,” explained band member Katie Rox. “Brandi and I love to show our fun side but with this project we wanted to share more of our vulnerable, sensitive side. Nice Horse is an expression of who we truly are, a beautiful mix of heartbreak and hope.”
Currently climbing the charts, the album’s first single, “Things I Wish I Didn’t Know,” tells the all too relatable story of the heartbreak associated with hearing that an ex has moved on. Laying the groundwork for what is to come from the horse-powered duo, the track’s official music video is now available.
Keeping the momentum going, the duo released a surprise digital track, “Seeing Ghosts,”on Friday. Boasting their signature energetic electric guitar melodies, “Seeing Ghosts” provides an upbeat soundtrack for one of the most challenging times — a breakup. Available across all streaming platforms, the track is the second release from the band’s upcoming full-length album dropping April 19 and clearly defines Nice Horse’s new direction. “There’s no question that the past few years have been some of the hardest times of our lives, but the thing that got us through it all was writing and we did a lot of it. This song, and the rest of the album, is a result of that and we’re so proud of the music we’ve created. We hope the fans, along with everyone who supported us and our former bandmates, are proud of the direction that we’re heading,” said Brandi.
Following the group’s CMAB win (Horizon Group or Duo of the Year), the duo will be heading on the road this year to perform their new album across Canada, with a handful of dates already announced. Boasting 10 Country Music Alberta Award wins, 2 Canadian Country Music Awards (Video of the Year, Bass Player of the Year) and 2 Western Canadian Music Awards (Country Artist of the Year), Brandi and Katie are paving the way for Nice Horse to have its biggest year yet. The duo wants to make one thing clear: Nice Horse never stops!
