Platinum-selling, multi-award winning country artist Tebey unveils his unique country rendition of Tate McRae’s hit single “greedy” as part of Re/Worked: The Greedy Sessions, a special three-part video series presented by The JUNO Awards and funded by Ontario Creates. Tebey’s episode is now available exclusively on The JUNO Awards’ official YouTube channel, with his countrified version of “greedy” streaming on all major platforms.
“For me, I try to make it sound different, and changing the groove of the song is the biggest part of it because that’ll give it its own identity,” explains Tebey. “At the end of the day, a great song should work in any genre of music, and this song definitely works as a country song.”
Tebey’s version of “greedy” brings a heartfelt, country twist to the platinum-certified pop anthem, incorporating steel guitar, banjo, and acoustic guitar to create an authentic yet innovative take. His ability to transform chart-topping hits into country-infused anthems has made him one of the most exciting and versatile artists in the genre today.
BLINDING SUCCESS WITH COVER SINGLES
Tebey is no stranger to putting a fresh country spin on global hits. His viral country re-imagination of “Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd took social media by storm, amassing over 13 million views in just one week after a short clip went viral. The overwhelming response led to an official release, racking up over 15 million streams worldwide and 75 million+ social media impressions. The track has since been added to country radio in over 15 countries and won Innovative Campaign of the Year at the 2024 CCMA Awards.
Long before “Blinding Lights,” Tebey’s 2014 Gold-certified cover of Avicii’s “Wake Me Up” (featuring Emerson Drive) became the most-played Canadian Country song of 2014 (Nielsen BDS) and was added to SXM The Highway in the US, marking his first major success in reimagining global hits for the country genre.
Further proving his knack for reinvention, Tebey has also released country versions of Maroon 5’s “Payphone” and Drake’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home”, solidifying his reputation as a trailblazer in genre-crossing country music.
