INTERVIEW // JADE HILTON at Boots & Hearts Music Festival

Interview by Bailey Buck, Videography Jeff Hurd – Jade Hilton is a Chinese‑English Canadian country singer-songwriter hailing from Toronto. After earning a full athletic scholarship and playing collegiate tennis at the University of Illinois, she returned home to dedicate herself to music, channeling the same resilience and discipline she learned on the courts into her artistry. Her multicultural heritage and diverse influences lend depth to her sound, blending traditional storytelling with modern sensibilities.

Her music is defined by emotional honesty and genre fusion. Jade crafts songs that resonate with vulnerability, using lyricism as an emotional outlet. In interviews, she has highlighted how songwriting lets her “let the listener in,” often addressing narratives that range from personal experiences to broader local histories—such as “Evelyn,” inspired by a notorious Hamilton murder case, and “Carolina Blue,” inspired by her college tennis days in the U.S. . Her sonic palette—earthy country melodies over ethereal folk‑pop landscapes—reflects a thoughtful blend of tradition and innovation Modern Mississauga MediaStagehand.
