JUNO & CCMA AWARD winner JAKE VAADELAND shares deeply personal solo album ‘This Is Jake Vaadeland’

Following a landmark year, JUNO and CCMA Award-winning artist Jake Vaadeland releases his new solo album This Is Jake Vaadeland — a collection that feels as much like a homecoming as it does a statement. Available everywhere today, the 17-track album is a heartfelt dive into the songs, stories, and sounds that shaped Jake’s early years growing up in rural Saskatchewan. Blending timeworn tradition with original songwriting, it offers a deep and reverent nod to the music that raised him. Listen to This Is Jake Vaadeland HERE.

Fully self-curated, the project reflects Vaadeland’s connection to early country music and his evolving voice as a modern roots artist. This Is Jake Vaadeland was recorded at Calgary’s National Music Centre and co-produced with longtime collaborator Joel Rohs. Its warm, analog sound feels as intentional as the songs themselves — capturing a sense of time and place that runs through every note.

“These are not just ordinary old folk songs. They are the harmonies and notes that are deeply embedded within the strong roots of my childhood,” Vaadeland shares. “I can hear them distantly, behind every memory that lives on from my life growing up in the Canadian wilderness, in an old white home, along the Sturgeon River.”

A standout among the originals is the lead single “The Homesteader’s Song.” Released on Vaadeland’s 23rd birthday earlier this week, the track is a powerful and deeply personal narrative that traces his family’s journey across the ocean to build a new life in Canada. It was inspired by his great-grandfather, Severin Vaadeland, and pays tribute to his great-grandmother Karen, who is referenced in the lyrics as the family’s wife and mother. Karen was born on May 22, 1901 — the same date as the album’s release — and passed away in 2000 at the age of 99, singing hymns in her bed.

Rich with history and emotion, the song sets the tone for a record rooted in heritage, resilience, and identity. Vaadeland dedicated the record to his grandparents: Darlene and Ruben Vaadeland, and Gail and Bill Churchman, whose influence and stories are deeply embedded throughout the album’s emotional core.

This Is Jake Vaadeland follows an extraordinary year for the young artist, who has quickly established himself as one of Canada’s most compelling roots performers — winning over audiences with a style that merges tradition and authenticity with fresh, original songwriting. He has made history as the youngest Canadian artist to earn Road Gold certification (surpassing 25,000 tickets sold nationwide), and he took home both the 2025 JUNO Award for Traditional Roots Album of the Year and CCMA Award for Alternative Country Album of the Year, solidifying his place among the country’s most exciting musical voices.

Vaadeland will support the album with an international tour this summer with his band The Sturgeon River Boys. The run includes dates across Canada and festival appearances throughout Europe.
