DELTA SWEET Rides Into Summer With New Single ‘Smooth Runnin’

Hit-making country storyteller Delta Sweet delivers a windows-down summer soundtrack with his new single, “Smooth Runnin’,” available everywhere now via New Motor Records (LISTEN HERE). Written by Delta Sweet (aka Patrick Kordyback, frontman of Stereos) alongside longtime friend and truck collector Daniel Johnson, the upbeat track captures the stories and connections tied to old pickups and the people who drive them.

Built with nostalgic charm and open-road spirit, “Smooth Runnin’” highlights the storytelling roots at the core of Delta Sweet’s sound. The song was inspired by real conversations about vintage square body trucks and the lives connected to them.

“One night Daniel was telling me about all the stories he has from buying and selling these trucks to different people all over North America,” says Delta Sweet. “Stories about where the trucks have been or where they’re going were so interesting to me and I knew we had to make it a song. This story is based on the experiences of a few different people whose paths he’s crossed based on their shared love for these old fixer uppers.”

The release builds on the momentum built over the past year by Kordyback, known to many as the lead singer and principal songwriter of multi-platinum Canadian pop-rock band Stereos, who continues establishing himself as one of Canada’s emerging country artists to watch.

This summer, Delta Sweet will perform at major country festivals including Calgary’s Country Thunder (June 28) and Camrose’s Big Valley Jamboree (August 1); and will close out the summer performing with Stereos alongside Simple Plan and 3OH!3 at Sauble Beach Party in Ontario on September 5.

Though now fully embracing country music as a solo artist, Kordyback first rose to national prominence as the frontman of Stereos, who broke through on the MuchMusic series DisBAND. The group quickly skyrocketed to success with a gold-selling debut album and multi-platinum singles like “Throw Ya Hands Up” and “Summer Girl,” earning two JUNO nominations, three SOCAN #1 Awards and a fiercely loyal fanbase.

While Stereos became known for their genre-blending pop-rock sound, country music has always been part of Kordyback’s creative DNA. Elements of that influence surfaced throughout the band’s catalogue – in songs like “Way Back Home,” “Wild Hearts” and “Glory Days” – and now take centre stage through his solo work.

“Country radio was the soundtrack to every camping trip, lake weekend, bike ride, Slurpee, you name it,” he says. “I think the biggest influence this has had on the music I’ve released previously is the fact that I always wanted every song to tell a story. No genre of music can tell a story better than country.”
