One of Canada’s most promising new country artists, Josh Stumpf, celebrates a career milestone with the release of his EP, Two-Lane Testimony, out today via MDM Recordings Inc./Warner Music Canada, building on the momentum of his two Top 10 Canadian country radio hits and rapidly growing fanbase.
Of the EP, Stumpf says, “What I love most about this EP is the way each song holds its own while still contributing to something bigger. Every track tells its own story, but together they connect in a way that reveals a fuller picture. A lot of that meaning comes from the themes of love and loss and the idea of escape running throughout. Two of the songs are about driving, using the road as a way to get away, whether that’s from your thoughts, your emotions, your day-to-day life, or your hometown. I wanted the title to reflect that.”
Rounding out the EP is Stumpf’s newest single, “Johnnie Walker (Back To Me),” also out today. The track captures the heart of his sound – gritty, soulful and unapologetically country – while weaving together his influences of traditional country, ‘80s two-step rhythms and rock-driven energy.
“My favourite thing about ‘Johnnie Walker (Back To Me)’ is how it instantly makes you want to move,”shares Stumpf. “It feels so free and uplifting, even though it’s telling the story of heartbreak, and I think that contrast is what makes it hit so hard.”
Most recently, Stumpf was named as a semi-finalist in SiriusXM Canada’s Top of the Country program. The nationwide competition in partnership with the Canadian Country Music Association® (CCMA) celebrates Canada’s next generation of country music artists.
At just 23, Stumpf is proving he’s a force to watch. With over 5.4 million global streams to date, “Highway Money” marked Stumpf’s debut release with MDM Recordings Inc. and introduced a sound that fuses outlaw country grit, 80s two-step swagger, and heartfelt country rock into something distinctly his own. Named Emerging Artist of the Year at the 2024 Saskatchewan Country Music Awards, Stumpf’s raw honesty and genre-blending sound are cementing his place as one of the most exciting new voices in Canadian country. Beyond his musical achievements, Stumpf remains committed to his roots as co-founder of the Sunset Country Music Festival, a grassroots Saskatchewan event dedicated to giving back to the local community.
