Photos by Orest Dorosh, Review by Anna Wood – Friday officially kicked off the weekend at Boots & Hearts as the Emerging Artist Showcase took over the tent, setting the stage for days filled with live music, great food, and nonstop energy. While the festival grounds feature two stages and pop-up events showcasing international headliners and top Canadian talent, Friday afternoon belonged entirely to eight rising acts competing for top honors under the hot and humid summer sky. The sheer quality of the performances—ranging from intimate acoustic storytelling to full-band rock crossovers—made the judges’ job nearly impossible as the crowd cheered through every set.
Laila opened strong, taking command of the stage in a striking red outfit while belting out powerful vocals with poise and confidence. She was followed by Connor Eller, who brought a cozy, small-town acoustic feel to his big-festival debut, capping his narrative-driven set with a popular Riley Green cover. Leah Holton took the stage next, bringing a sweet folk-country warmth to the room and delivering an angelic, passionate rendition of the Dixie Chicks’ classic “Wide Open Spaces.”
The energy continued to build as Landon Bedor picked up his acoustic guitar, leaning into a raspy, confident delivery on his original track “Sound the Alarm” before feeding off the crowd’s energy to close out his set. Duo Yassin & Sean Terrio then transformed the tent into an absolute party, showing total stage command through infectious dancing and vocal runs marked by a crystal-clear, silvery upper register.
Atlantic Canada’s Taylor Jensen kept the momentum high, donning a zebra-print outfit and leading her band through a soulful, high-octane country set that culminated in a wild Fleetwood Mac mash-up. Jackson Klippenstein brought a contrasting, seaside warmth to the lineup, kicking off his sandals mid-set to deliver a sun-bleached acoustic groove that peaked with his hit “Breathe It In.” Alongside a lively contribution from The Mainlanders, the eight acts delivered a relentless afternoon that proved the future of country music is in remarkable hands.
