After stoking fan excitement for a new drop, today rising country star Timmy McKeever delivers “Shouldn’t Be.” The California-bred, Nashville-based artist displays his signature charisma and earnest songwriting via today’s release that follows swaggering fan-favourite “Back To Back.”
“Shouldn’t Be” was written by McKeever alongside Jake Banfield, Phil Barton and Katie Cecil with production by Alex Maxwell (“Darlin’” by Chase Matthew) and Matthew McVaney. Running into a past lover he probably shouldn’t entertain, McKeever sings:
We shouldn’t be flirting with disaster
We shouldn’t be running for the flames
You and me weren’t dancing in the aftermath of a cat-five hurricane
With all the miles we put on our hearts
I’m surprised they ain’t falling apart (yeah)
We said the last time would be the last time
But after tonight maybe it shouldn’t be
Often depicting the push and pull of complicated relationships, McKeever’s recent “Wrong With Me” reckons with blame and toxicity. Raised Rowdy notes that the song “still holds true to his country roots with strong lyrical imagery.” Infectious “20 Over,” released at the top of the year, became McKeever’s highest pre-save on a track release to date, proving the young star’s hitmaking ability.
Last month, McKeever made his CMA Fest debut on the Good Molecules Reverb stage along with an appearance at WME’s annual “Loser’s Live” artist showcase. Next weekend, Timmy will support Lee Brice and Kameron Marlowe in his home state of California at Great Park Live in Irvine.
